| I notice a lot of leftists these days say things like "If everyone would get together and hold hands we would have world peace."
Naturally, most of them who say this (ie. publishers of the Workers Weekly) live in wealthy countries and enjoy wealthy lives, compared to most of the world.
Unfortunately, since the beginning of time, reality is harsher than dreaming. You can dream of worlds where lions have names like "Simba" and get along great with humans. But in reality, lions eat humans.
The world of academia often conflicts with the world of reality for obvious reasons. Professors study reality from their ivory towers....people live reality. Professors look at the war against Iraq and come up with 400 better ways to deal with Iraq. Soldiers fight the war in Iraq.
People often present pieces from professors, or even worse, journalists, and the majority believe that just because somebody tried to apply a mathetical formula to poverty, it makes it credible.
Its a bit like business - professors of business have a billion theories for business, but very few of them could actually survive in the business world.
The factor of reality is the biggest there is. In reality, the well-crafted plan for Communism turned into a Stalinist state where workers became killers and the supposed "workers leaders" became dictators.
Like Bill Gates said...."Before protesting about the rainforest, how about getting rid of the lice in your clothes?"
Ideological loyalty is the act of giving your soul to a vague concept, to be manipulated by people smarter than you. |
