| determinism is a dangerous idea.
ultimately i rejected determinism because it seems that some occurrences are the product of chaos or of human spontaneity. determinism holds that there is only one possible outcome from any starting position. i never could quite accept the idea that if you started two earths, side by side, a billion years ago-- then i would be typing this exact same message in both earths a billion years later. or, carried to its extreme, that two identical "Big Bangs" would yield identical universes 5 billion years later.
