Mobile phones exist only to a marginal extent for actual communication.
Mostly they're a fashion accessory -- a way of showing off, of feeling important.
And of making tons more noise than people used to make.

I take it you're Italian. Mobile phones are a particular plague in Italy because, as one observer pointed out, they constitute a new way of being Italian (see above).
