The whole BSD family is hard to install and sometimes just as hard to add apps to. I like a challenge, but I don't have enough hair to tear out to attempt to deal with those difficult distros. If I were running a server, then I'd slap BSD on it. But for everyday computing it's too much work. Computers were meant to make us more productive, not more frustrated.

I failed to mention PCLos. That's a very nice distro based on Mandriva and uses RPM for packages. It's very up-to-date. Texstar is the sole maintainer, so the distro reflects his interest in the latest and greatest versions of all the available apps.

P.S. I considered having a common /home partition, but since in some cases I was reviewing the distros for Lockergnome, I wanted to make sure I was treating each as a fully separate OS...except for the swap file.
