| Al Jazeera is bookmarked right next to CNN in my Firefox. The idea is that reality is somewhere between them.
If I want general information, honestly, I go straight to Wikipedia. Everybody hates it but the hyperlinked bibliography at the end of every page is just too useful not to use. Its also free, searchable, and you can view old versions of a page.
There's also a bunch of specialized websites for weird things I need a lot. OpenSecrets.org is useful for making points about government corruption, and Urbandictionary.com is the shizzle for when your homies use phrases like bloody dragon or ginga.
