It's a tough question, largely because we're dealing with perception. If I were a prominent member of a Church, I would be partly responsible for its members. But how responsible?

But I'll secularize things a bit:
I have kept company with "shady people" in my past (haven't we all?). Should I be held accountable for everything they may say and do? Not really, at least not highly accountable. Maybe I can play a small role in rectifying things. I can try to take responsibility for the acts of others, but there's only so much credit one should be given.
