I think it's absurd, but I don't think it's any *more* absurd than religions calling for genital mutilation, strange and no-longer-relevent dietary restrictions, etc.
As far as suing, I dunno. As Jack indicated, at least in the US religion has the distinction of being a private entity, and even tho *some* discrimination has been successfully fought even within private organizations, I'm not sure you'd win or even have grounds.... you'd have to be a member OF that religion, for one, or they'd say you didn't have cause or something, blah blah blah...
I think if all the women *left* those religions it might fix the problem rather neatly.
