None of those things is anywhere near "unknown" -- the Jews didn't eat pork and other foods because non-Kosher foods are filthy by their nature (at least in terms of Jewish metaphysics) and digesting or even touching them corrupts the soul. That Gentiles devoured non-Kosher foods was thought by Ancient Jews to be a contributing factor to their evil. It is worth noting the Ancient Jews were not the only people to emphasize the importance of a certain diet in order to obtain spiritual purity. They considered the stomach the center of health and emotions.
The Jewish-Christians stopped believing in these things because Gentiles wouldn't have bought the faith otherwise -- they liked non-Kosher foods too much, consumption of pork, for example, being an important feature of many cultures under the Roman Empire.
