Communities, societies, groups cultivate and/or promote and/or endorse, etc. certain values. An individual faces a risk of being rejected and/or condamned if she/he does not follow and/or obey those values.
This is why that individual is being perceived by communities, societies, groups, etc. as an element that carries negative values (in comparison).
