"The Bush administration keeps stating that Iraq will be a Al Qaeda haven when we leave and in the same breathe that Iran will increase its influence over Iraq and the Shia Militias will take over."
Saudi Arabia supplies U.S. with oil. Saudi Arabia supports Sunnis.
Iran supplies U.S. with headache. Iran supports Shiites.
Add to that package PLO, Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria, Liban and one may experience a mental breakdown (at least).
Why does G.Bush state that al-Qaeda is about to take over reigns of power in Iraq ?
U.S. does not want to see Saudi Arabia to become unstable state. That is why U.S. wants to assure Saudi Arabia that Iraq is free of any extreme elements within. In order to achieve that goal, the Iraqi governing body must be strong enough to overcome any influence that may stay in opposite course with U.S. interests in the Middle-East region.
Why al-Qaeda ?
It could be any other, as long as it points at any form of opposition to the U.S.-backed Iraqi governing body.
