Ah, the social scene is hardest. I once had to quit drinking for 3 months when I was 20 and at university due to a course of drugs I was on. That was a proverbial nightmare.
Anyhow; good luck with whatever you decide to do. A friend of mine has been dry for somewhere approaching 3 years know, but she's a recovered/recovering alcoholic. It's a hard place to be.
