It isn't really done for musical reasons.
Covers on the other hand, are a fresh interpretation of a loved song. |
I agree, they are for disco style dancing. I like to hear songs done in a different way as an alternative to the same-o same-o. Overall they sometimes have better sound quality.
Now we have techno remixes and other kinds of re-mixes. Sometimes they make a remix that is made up of a lot of hits into one big megamix.
The remix of Rubbernecking by Elvis is better then the sound track version.
They did a techno remix of Dolly Parton singing 9 to 5. The Beatle remixes are outstanding.
The one I like best is the Frank Sinatra remix where he sings "that's life" only they dub in some rap music about urban life in the getto, that was great stuff. And the remix of "I did it my way" by Frank with some soul singers and a little rap was awesome. The fast techno beat added to Imagine with John Lennon was okay.
Another "must hear" is the remix with Johnny Cash singing "hurt" which also is templated with rap music form uban African American artists.
The made a mega remix with hits by Monroe and the Andrew Sisters doing Betty Boop songs and other things. Great for those who like Glenn Miller and 1940s swing music.
I have been collecting cover songs for ages now, as well as the original artists who were covered by famous stars like Elvis or the Rolling Stones.
I also have some home made CDs with cover songs by punk rock singers. Those are really fun. One CD I have contains all punk rock covers of famous Christmas songs. I use it to purge my self each time that holiday rolls around.
Here are some hot cover tunes... just my cup of tea.
