Of course there is a biological preconditioned instinct to raise a child, as evident in any animal. But this is not absolute in humans. Do bird simply decide not to feed their young if they don't feel like it? Or does a dog abandon her pups on a whim?
No, lesser creatures can kill off offspring but only in certain conditions such as taking over another pride of lions, or lack of food so the young themselves are needed for survival as food.
