When we read that the Aztec’s once sacrificed over ten thousand people in a single four day ceremony, or read of infant bones unearthed where the Carthaginians practiced the ritual sacrifice of babies, or read of how in Bengal humans where still being sacrificed to Shakti as late as the nineteenth century, we are repulsed and mortified. We marvel at the barbarity of these infidels, amazed that they were unable to see the error of their ways. Yet Christianity is founded upon the acceptance of just such a barbaric act. In every Christian church the Christ may be seen nailed to a wooden cross with an expression of agony or sadness adorning his face, while Christians look on rejoicing. There is something morbidly ironic in this sadomasochism, especially for one who believes that Jesus was probably nothing more that a preacher who caused a little too much ruckus in a time when it was not very wise to do so.

Human sacrifice is immoral. The demand for the blood payment of sins is immoral. Vicarious forgiveness is immoral. It is from the axioms that one may draw the final conclusion: the Christian doctrine of atonement is immoral. There are many other corollaries that follow, but those are left for the reader to consider.

thank you
