competence, intelligence, and education are 3 different things
True they are different but all are developed due to attention and interest.

Supposing both attention and interest are identical in two persons (which infact is not there) and the difference in their understanding new job, developing new skills and reproducing such activities later would speak of their difference in intelligence.

"intelligence not supported with common sense is useless."
Our main aim to understand what is intelligence and reply to the OP as to " Was he actually less intelligence the previous day???"

In sports, for example, the best player may not be the most able player, but rather the person who plays because he loves the game.
I too have mentioned Interest & Attention do play main role in developing the skill but rate of developing those skills under equivalent rest of the variables like common sense, competitativeness, smartness, memory...and the like in different person can be the correct definition of Intelligence.
