A chemical reaction is just a response to external stimulus. The reaction you just made to my post (question mark and everything) is necessarily the only one you were ever going to make upon reading my post in the position in space-time you were at upon doing so. Every occurence pertaining to you in that instant had conditioned you to respond in that way.
Or, more obviously, you do not (generally) freely generate your cognitions, they simply appear, you (
sometimes) consider them, and then act on one -- the only one you can act on given the circumstances.
