Quote by: Sandy Back in the late 1940s, I was in an all girls boarding school and I was gaining weight. The other girls (Hollywood, you know) ended up vomitting after every meal but I felt it was unhealthy,. My mother used to pick me up after study hall hour and before dinner and we would drive up Beverly Glen Blvd. and I would smoke 2 cigarettes to lose my appetite. It was simply to keep my weight down. I graduated in 1950 and being free of the school rules, I began to smoke before every meal and between meals. It worked my weight during these years was 114.
I stopped smoking when a pack of cigarettes went over 35 cents and went through 6 months of hell. Over the years I've gained 60 pounds and feel awful. I was an athlete all those years but still the weight hit hard. Going on estrogen after my hysterectomy just kept adding more weight.
I will never smoke again as the withdrawal was pure hell. I don't care if others smoke; my husband smoked a pipe for years. I never once felt it was a moral sin or even health hazard. |
Of couse the doctors and drug compaines would perfer that you buy pills to loose weight or get a tummy tuck operation.
My weight is 120 pounds. Sort of underwight for a male, according to my doctor, but if feels good and gives me more energy. Of course I did not stop when the price when up to 35 cents (I remember those days, and the ones in the machine even went up higher in price).
Now I pay $2.50 per pack ( I gave up my name brand one and get those promotional ones). But I do not eat as much food. My wife does not smoke but eats lots of candy and chips while watching TV or when she is upset about something. She is overweight now. But now the price of food is skyrocketing. Do you recall the 25 cent McDonald hamburger days? They used to advertise 4 hamburgers for only a buck. Cheese was 10 cents more.
The anti smoking agenda is good for the medical industry. As people gain weight they make more money - weight control is a number one industry nowadays...big bucks. Smoking while in traffic can reduce stress but they are trying to outlaw that, and so people will need to buy more drugs to treat anger management problems and being hypo all the time emotionally.
The reason James Dean looked cool was not due to the cigarette, it was because he looked calm, cool, and collected in his ability not be uptight and "shaking" when the bad guys came around, that is called stress managment and the cigarette is just a tool towards being calm under stress, and appearing calm makes you look "cool". Not the cigarette.
In fact tobacco is a way to self-medicate without depending on doctors or drug companies.
That is why Native Americans used the tobacco peace pipe to calm people down during a big pow wow to arrange a treaty with the enemy.
I know you are not advocating smoking per-say.
I also drink coffee which helps to balance things out, the coffee works to reduce any kind of caughing. They should do some more research on coffee beans.
