| I had heard that Rush Limbaugh has been encouraging republicans in Texas to go out and vote for Hillary Clinton in the Texas primary just to cause chaos in the democratic party.
My suspicions were aroused. I strongly doubted that anyone claiming to be a great supporter of the 'American Way' and ideals would be so hypocritical as to openly encourage people to go out and deliberately disrupt the system.
I admit I have never been much of a Limbaugh fan. I don't like lefties or righties who's career is making excuses for one side and blaming the other for everything. Still I always thought Rush was at least trying to present himself as one of the"good guys". And was definitely a patriot.
So today (March 4th) I tuned into his show, since I do not automatically swallow all the crap I hear about him or anyone else from media sources.
SHOCK. It was not only true but he was bragging about it! He said he was "...not subverting democracy, only making them mad, which was another goal we achieved."
He went on to pretty much claim credit for Clinton winning Texas.
(Pretty arrogant even if it could be true).
To me it is not a matter of whether he caused Clinton to take Texas or not. What matters is that he is proud of dirty politics. So much for the good guy patriot image.
Did he have a right to do it? Yes. Freedom of speech and all that. There are lots of things we have the right to do that we should still be ashamed of.
What really made me shudder about this, and caused me to write this post, is that there are actually people out there who will respond to it defending him.
Not defending his right to do it. That is a given. But defend his honor and actions that are obviously underhanded and decidedly NOT in support of the American system.
Why?
Because he is Rush Limbaugh. My Rush right or wrong?
Because he did it to the democrats and anything done to them is justified?
Because all is fair in politics? Does that justify anything? (If ALL is fair in politics I suppose you also have to support ballot stuffing and political assassinations as fair) Or is it just that anything Rush does in politics is fair.
I remember my daughter asking me (when she was studying about the Third Reich) how a whole country could be evil?. I remember telling her that good people can get so blind in supporting something or someone that they start too justify and forgive anything for that person or cause. That they begin to justify things they would react in horror to if some other person or group did those same things.
To me the fact that this man still has enough blindly stupid followers that he can support a sponsored program reflects this point perfectly.
Regarding the actual outcome (I am an undecided voter at this time) I would just like to see this election play out without self-righteous players of any stripe trying to manipulate a system I am still sappy, and patriotic enough, to believe in.
