Well if Obama or Clinton win the nomination, which it appears one will do, then they have a great chance of doing. I personally think the US is ready to vote in a Black man or women. Especially a women. Don't forget 50%+ of the population is made of women.

You said KKK and neo-nazis! I don't think they are that big that they can even sway even a primary. We have black, Jewish and Latino govenors and Congressman. LS (a deep south state) even has an Indian (Asia) as a governor. MN has a black Muslim as a Congressman.
