Quote by: scofield The energy in an electron comes from magnetism. Basically, electricity and magnetism are one of these co-dependant pairs. A moving magnetic field creates electricity, just as the motion of electricity creates a magnetic field. Each creates, and cannot exist without, the other.
There are pairs just like this at all levels, such as Infinity and Nothingness. Down from that you have space and time, and down further you have matter and energy. Just as time and space are interchangable concepts, so are matter and energy. As you correctly stated, you simply cannot have matter without energy, but likewise you simply cannot have energy without matter.
I see no reason to equate the soul with energy. Energy is a physical property of the universe, the soul is not. Neither is the soul subject to the physical laws of the universe. Energy is.
The universe, being finite, has very definite rules about separation, in that everything is separate. No two things can be in the same space unless they are there at different times. Everything is seperated either by space or by time.
The soul is subject to quite opposite rules. A soul is more about 'oneness' than about separation. A soul does not have a definite location, a soul can be part of a greater consciousness while still being an individual, a soul does not take up space and is not subject to the laws of time.
A soul is will, choice, volition, it is the ability to create an effect instead of being an effect. Nothing in the material, physical universe can initiate an effect. Not an MMM, not even a pebble.
You've probably many times heard the concept of cause and effect, this is equivalent to you (cause) and the universe (effect).
Now on that basis I would agree that nothing would exist without life (cause). Similarly, while life is certainly all-pervasive, I don't believe there is any ability in non-living things to cause anything. An atom is little more than a billiard ball being bounced around the table when something with life caused it to. |
