Quote by: Nemiroff i wonder, and this question doesn't only apply to christianity, if you follow most of the basic teachings (like thou shalt not kill, not praying X number of times a day) and live your life as a wholesome person, what would your after life/ reincarnation/ whatever else could happen after you die, be like?

First off, why would an atheist pray x number of times a day? Who would they pray to? Darwin? No. If you pray, you're really not an atheist.
Second, why would an Atheist wonder or worry about what was going to happen after they die? They believe that your "soul" is just your higher consciousness, controlled by electrical and chemical impulses in the brain that cease when you die just like everything else.

Many may think that Catholics condemn all other religions directly to Hell and we are "right" and everyone else is "wrong". This is untrue. We believe that if a person is a "good" person and follows whatever religion they know, then they will get to heaven. (Words are in quotes because they are very subjective terms and open to many meanings) So, in terms of your question I believe that your "perfect" atheist would go to heaven. |
That puts you in the minority. I went to Catholic school from k-6, was forced by my mom to continue going to church every Sunday for years after that, and still have a very Catholic family. I was taught by my parents, my elementary school teachers, and the priests at the church that accepting Jesus Christ as the son of God, accepting that Mary, the virgin mother of Jesus, and accepting God as the father and the holy spirit were all necessary if you didn't want to burn in Hell for all eternity.
I first got skeptical because I realized I only believed this because I was raised to, and that there are billions of people raised to believe otherwise, and so they WOULD believe otherwise and, according to the beliefs I was brought up on, end up in Hell.
Then I realized that biblically speaking, there is no Hell. There is simply a lack of existence for those that don't follow the rules and that the concept of Hell was created by Catholics, probably so they could try to convert Buddhists since Buddhists TRY to die and go nowhere.
