I remember a kid from my middle school that would bring a bunch of candy to school in a duffel bag and sell it. When the "authorities" found out, they suspended him for a week.
In a cruel twist of fate the kid, Jason Jones, almost died in music class when he choked on a piece of lifesavers candy.
It should be understood that the school is only trying to do the right thing by making this sort of sales against the rules. However what happens is they feel the need to make the penalties so harsh, it causes far more damage than the "crime" itself.
