U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Richard Boucher told a congressional panel on July 12th that the United States is currently paying around $100 Million a month. He further revealed that this aid totals over $1.2 Billion a year and does not include other aid earmarked for education reform as well as social assistance. |
This isn't "aid" it's buying friendship and support. When is the U.S. going to learn that when you pay for friendship, that friendship lasts only as long as the money keeps coming in? When the relationship goes bad, and it inevitably will since Pakistan will eventually put it's own interests ahead of ours, we will then be facing an antagonist that has been strengthened by billions of our own dollars. How much ill will do we generate towards the U.S. when we meddle in the internal affairs of other countries and artificially prop up unpopular regimes? The U.S. needs to cut off the payola, butt out of Pakistani politics and let them decide for themselves what and who they want in their government. Why do we continue to pay billions of dollars to strengthen a country that in all likelihood will become an adversary?
