Sure, his doctorate in nutrition and books on homeopathy certainly qualifies him as a political expert. It must be his ability to bloviate and scream louder than the people who disagree with him that makes him so good.

To people who only watched Stewart for the last seven years he would appear to be a liberal because he makes fun of Bush. You're ignoring the fact that he makes fun of the media and world events in general. See if you can find any clips of the Daily Show when Clinton was president. You also are forgetting, or are not aware, of the Steven Colbert before he got his own show.
On Steven Colbert, I bet you if a Democrat wins in '08 he'll have a change of heart and be a bleeding heart liberal. His shtick is an act, it's satire.
As far as whether comedians are "Liberal" or "Conservative"--comedians are comedians, most are equal opportunity comedians. I laugh at jokes about Clinton and I laugh at jokes about Bush, if it's funny it's funny.
