You can say that again.
Along the lines of the expression, "Hate the war, love the soldier," there are many people I met in Europe who "hate American, love the Americans."
I think much of the world does understand that our government is acting independent of our interests and sympathizes.
The next level of understanding, however, comes from those who shake a finger at us for voting Bush into office and don't feel bad at all.
The third and final level of understanding gets us sympathy again from foreigners who see what our choices were in the election.
