Quote by: Technosoul After looking at the link you provided I must think they went over the line this time. Perhaps the intent was to show Willis as a "tuff guy" because he used those words and had that attitude, it is still not something to be promoted for viewing because he has a "fan base" that admires him as a role model. |
Bruce Willis hasn't appeared live in a movie appropriate for children in over 7 years (Disney's The Kid, 2000). Exactly who is he a "role model" for?

I am removing that movie from my future "watch list".

Rather petty to remove a movie from your watch list because of a couple of words.

Quote by: Technosoul Willis is not a black rapper and so they should not have him use the term 'Asian Bitch' in the movie. |
I see. So black rappers get a pass when it comes to being racist? Why?

And to tell people to "calm down and allow rasism" seems to be a lame idea in my book. Do you also have funny drawings of Jews with long noses on the wall to laugh at?
|
No, but if you can tell me where I can get some, I'd love to have them.
FUNNY has nothing to do with offensive or not offensive. If something is funny, it is.. Humor offends people. Too bad. If something racist is funny I will laugh at it.

Exactly.

Quote by: Ken Carman Good point, but I do wish Hollywood would think a little more and at least offer a token positive role model no matter what the stereotype they throw around. Would I regulate it? Hell, no. Just think it wise. |
Why does Hollywood need to offer positive role models? Why can't they make a movie about disgusting or dishonorable people? It's an art. The content of the art should be what the artist desires, not what some social engineer thinks is "wise".

Quote by: Praxius I'll probably watch the movie someday.... but the only time I would have to refuse to watch a movie based on racism, would be if that was the central basis of the storyline. |
I would watch any movie if it was good, regardless of the storyline. There have been very good movies made about racism and plenty of good media where the main character was an unabashed racist. WHO CARES. It's just words and thoughts. When we start trying to make words and thoughts unacceptable we are in big trouble.

Quote by: tinybear I agree. People are probably too sensitive about race these days. But I'd like to bring out another related issue, if I may. Let's suppose it was Halle Berry playing Maggie's role and Bruce had referred to her as a 'black whore'. Would you view that remark in the same light? |
Yes. In fact, if he called her a "dirty watermelon-eating n*gger" I would still see that movie. (censoring myself so the mods don't)
I find jokes about racism and racist jokes funny. I find jokes about rape funny. I find jokes about serial killing to be funny. I think Dateline NBC's "To Catch A Predator" is one of the most unintentionally funny shows ever on television, and it is about exposing real-life would-be child molesters. I find politically incorrect things to be funny. WHO CARES?
There is no Constitutional right to not be offended.
