Problem is, we are a "marvel to behold" and an advanced race only in OUR eyes. We have no yardstick to judge us against any other race, cuz we ain't met them yet. We are incorrectly assuming that we might have ANYTHING in common with a visiting alien race. Our "advanced" society might look like bacteria to them.
