i agree with the author's sentiment.. the conspiracy theorists tend to come off as loonies, especially in the case of 9/11 - and people tend to treat perceived loonies as if they were radioactive. i'm not sure if they necessarily hurt their cause soley because i don't think they even have a cause to begin with. but if they did have one, it would certainly suffer.
in a sense, that's also why many people here refuse to vote for third parties, because it's perceived that their base is chock full of loonies...
one of our favorite loudmouthed celebrities over here, rosie o'donnell, recently added her support to the conspiracy theorists' camp - and in the process helped further it's fringe characteristics.. some of her claims were refuted by professional engineers here.
