Meaning that Canada post-911 isn't as embarrassingly ass-kissing as the UK under Blair. But that is thanks to former prime minister Jean Chrétien, not to running-dog-lackey Stephen Harper. Chrétien told Bush to piss off in the run-up to the Iraq fiasco. Harper would have said "Yez'boss. Jes how high y'all want me to jump?"
Somehow Canada has survived as an alternative model of North Americanism. Maybe it's the harsh climate that forced people to be more socially cooperative ("We're all in this together.")
In any case, there's a significant difference between the two countries. The 49th parallel, once an abstract line drawn on a map, is now identifiable from outer space owing to differences in agriculture, irrigation and settlement.
