| There is a big difference between being born into a serious relationship and being born a bastard, especially with uncertain father. I suspect the morality surrounding sex developed from parents wanting their daughters to avoid hardships of raising bastards with no support. I also suspect lineage was more important in smaller clan-based societies. Morality against prostitution probably develops along similar lines. |
