| Conventions in writing were established to make communicating ideas easier for the reader. I don't mind nonconformists, but I don't especially appreciate them either. They're novel and unusual, but if I can't comprehend the subject they're writing about, if the mis-spellings and their avoidance of common grammar make them unintelligible, what's the point? Anyone can write unconventionally, it takes no skill to type as you please with no regard for comprehension. Some people may appreciate poetry written like that, just like some people can appreciate abstract art. There's a commonality between people who can "see" images in abstract paintings and those who can find "deep meaning" in structureless prose. While I occasionally see an abstract painting that interests me, I'm too much an old-school writer to appreciate someone who favors form over function when writing to communicate a thought or idea. |
