Contrary to popular opinion, the First Amendment to our Constitution does not say anything about the separation of Powers (Church and State).

What it does say is that Congress (the body of our government which writes the laws) cannot make a law that establishes a religion nor make a law to keep people from practicing a religion, any religion or no religion. The tenth Amendment would allow each state to regulate religion however they see fit.

It doesn't work that way though, since the Federal government has usurped states rights and has, over the years, made many laws that have to do with keeping some people from practicing their religion and allowing others the reverse.
