Haven't been around in quite a long time...so I read a few of the religion posts...and what strikes me is the feeling that to belong to an organized religion (like catholicism) you are bullied into believing what they tell you.
I've been a catholic all my life...and have aligned myself with progressive and peace-loving catholics...and any other peace lovers. It has given me much spiritual support. Orgs. like PaxChristi and Alliance of Catholics for the Common Good, Voice of the Faithful and others...do Christ's work, in my opinion...and I am fortunate to have found them, and to be a part of them. If the RC hierarchy wants to "excommunicate" such groups...it doesn't bother me a bit. Yes, we are free (contrary to those who believe that Christians are being "prohibited from practicing their faith"....look carefully at the US, and why it has been (mostly) a country of FREEDOM of religion).
It's as simple as maintaining that we have NO state religion! Period. I'll get down off my soapbox now! ;o).
