| The original US constitution did not forecast the growth of government to the overfed moster it has become.
What are the legitimate functions of government? Envisioned in the US Constitution are a common currency, a common trade policy with uniform tariffs, a common postal system, a nationally funded navy to forestall piracy, a military defense of the states under national leadership, and representation of both the state governments and the people in the national legislature. I think national diplomacy was also a part of the plan, and so was law enforcement.
Can we find common ground in some of these areas?
