| I just don't foresee developers jumping at the PS3.
The console itself is too expensive, the technology is untested, and the programming language complexity is entirely new.
If I get a next gen console, I'll first get a Wii to replace my Gamecube.
Then I'll get an XBox 360 for the couple games here and there that aren't PC or cross-console.
Nintendo is happy to be a profitable third place. Now they might be a happy and profitable second place.
Also, I find the Nintendo players are a different type of gamer than X360 gamers. X360 gamers seem like they have something to prove. Either online or with the X360 as a status symbol, they don't really have the depth of video game skill as someone who started on PC's and the 8-bit Nintendo.
They're "one hit wonders" good for one or two genre's of game. PS-3 and X360 are angled towards that type of player, the status symbol, one genre player. Wii is for the casual. These days, the casual is starting to come out on top as games become more expensive and elaborately complex. |
