Actualy 2+2=5 for sufficently large values of 2. If you accept the fact that counting numbers do not exist in nature and further accept physics nomenclature for significant figures, 2 with no zeros holding the decimal places is a single significant figure. Therefore 2.49 to a single significant figure is 2.
2(2.49)+2(2.49)=5(4.98)
