A democratic society would not
have to be capitalistic. If currency could be democratized, it couldn't become a tool to be used by those who possessed more than they needed. Of course, then you're moving into socialism or communism on one level while maintaining a democratic social system. I'm not sure anything like that would be workable in the long-term or workable on a national scale...given human nature.
