Yes, you are right. Not every penny of our tax dollars are being siphoned off into welfare - I am well aware of that and perhaps got a little carried away in my above post. However, I don't want
one penny of my hard earned money going to these people. We have very high tax rates in NYC, and a lot of our money does go to welfare and other social programs. We have a high "degeneracy" rate here that puts a lot of strain on our city budget. Just to give you an example, in many immigrant neighborhoods here ( especially Queens) people hold seminars to educate new arrivals to this country on how to get welfare. Stuff like that disgusts me. We have a huge illegal immigrant population here and our tax dollars pay for their English lessons, their native language education in school, their healthcare, etc. We hand out millions, billions of dollars a year for social programs to help the poor, the addicted, the illegal, and the degenerate, yet many of our libraries have shut down or have been forced to reduce their hours, firehouses in some neighborhoods are now defunct, trash pick-up has been reduced, new police recruits pay has been slashed, etc.
