Here's a pseudoprediction. Our government (or some other related entity) will go and find these terrorists right before they are about to carry out their grand scheme. The result being the claim that these new laws suspending our various civil liberties are crucial and effective, and so should be expanded and made permanent. Or, our government will fail to intercept these terrorists before their scheme is hatched, resulting in loss of yet more life and the claim that our new terrorist laws suspending various civil liberties are not effective enough and thus need to be expanded and made permanent. The point being that our government has a pretty sweet thing going on right now. They can terrify the populace by averting disaster or running headlong into it, enabling yet more repressive tactics as evil as the terrorism they claim to be fighting. Where is Joseph Heller when you need him?
