In the 1920's a newspaper article warned, "Given our known oil supplies and rate of consumption, we are headed for economic disaster and possibly war."
Who is "this country"? Why have US citizens believed we have all the oil we need in our own country? Why did they believe Reagan when he said we do not have to conserve oil, and vote Carter out of office? Carter told us the truth and had unleashed the efforts to develop alternative energy, while Reagan took us further down the path of economic disaster and war. Yet Carter remains unpopular and Reagan is almost worshipped. Why?
We have had avoidable mass ignorance since the 1920's, who is responsible for this?
:) I remember when we were encouraged to buy electical appliances. It was like electricity is an unlimited supply and of course we should make our lives better by filling our homes with electrical devices. Now how are we to supply this unlimited demand for energy to the whole world? It is a good thing to "industrialize" the whole world, right? The whole world should be just like us, right? I remember a college professor saying because our ability to produce and adjust is unlimited, we don't need to worry about population increase. Come on we are so fantasic, we can do anything we determine to do and we do not need to think in terms of limits. Right?
