Whoo, of which laws do you speak? In the US, there are city laws, state laws and federal laws. States that allow medical pot are breaking federal law, but then this federal law is voilating the constitution. But then there is natural law. It is not a good idea to get stoned and go far a drive.
Ideally a democracy bases its laws on natural law. We should understand natural laws as God's laws, without the religious dogma. The Jews have a whole bunch of food laws based on nature's laws, and Jesus violated these laws, and said they were not necessary. Jesus was wrong. Eating with dirty hands can result in illness. We haven't made washing hands a state or federal law, but violating laws of nature comes with risks.
