The government would just be acting as it did when it made marijuana illegal in the first place. It would be eliminating competition for their "pet supporters" and "financiers" the drug companies, the chemical industry, and the monopoly on public health.

And don't forget what it will due to consumers, as well as the RESTRENGTHENING of the black market, that is already bigger than all of law enforcement.
