Quote by: tilefish I find Alito so far to be a rather bland person. I found his opening comments about his days at Princeton during the late sixties to be troubling. He basically seemed to disdain the action of many of his fellow students at the time. I assume he was referring to the anti-war protestors during those years(Correct me If I am Wrong). He seemed to compare those protesting students at the time with his local neighbors he grew up with in Trenton NJ. Interestingly I grew up in New Jersey and went to Puplic High school during those same years. I don't know what he is talking about. That was a very confrontational time at my public school. THere were riots, Bomb scares, race issues. It wasn't a nice time to say the least. My parents who raised us well encouraged us to spend our free time at Princton University attending sporting events, public skating a Princeton's Baker rink. I played in a youth hockey league that used Baker rink. Princeton was not some radical University at the time unlike Colubia University or Berkley. I question where he is going with this opening comment. |
As I cannot with surety address what was behind his statement, I can only augment your assumption by adding he may well have been speaking of the use of drugs, general hygiene, the burgeoning attraction to socialist thinking, as well as what many looked at as the misguided actions of some war protestors. Many were no more informed then than Cindy Sheehan is today. I, too, grew up in NJ, Westfield and Bridgewater to be exact. Turbulence was not unknown in my neighborhood, but was not the overriding concern of the day. Most days guys were more interested in scoring some doobs and sating the munchies.
