| it's always funny how bush will initially oppose a certain provision... and then, when he realizes that he doesn't have the political clout - then, he acquiesces and supports the legislation as if he supported it all along.
same thing as when he initially wanted HHS controlled directly by the white house, then caved in and made it a separate agency with congressional oversight.. same thing as when he initially opposed the 9/11 commission, then touted it as something he had been advocating all along.
too bad for him that this is way too late in his presidency for anyone to really believe that he's anti-torture.. i don't think all the good p.r. in the world can change peoples' perceptions given what he's done in the past. |
