Well he wouldn't be the first suspicious death of a military guy that was gay, Alan Schindler kicked to death by 5 fellow sailors, and another soldier (Barry) clubbed to death with a baseball bat while he was sleeping,(the day before the gay man beat his murderer in a fair fist fight.)
