I wish them luck. Having a state or two seceed, I think, would discourage a lot of bad federal legislation - there's little reason why the federal government currently feels it has to keep itself in check ... though if it realized states weren't simply captive subjects, that might change the perspective of future federal proposals.
There's little of anything protecting individual states from being abused by others except the Supreme Court, and if that protection isn't forthcoming, it's probably better to just go it alone.

I believe 4 towns in Vermont have already voted to seceed from Vermont itself. This is over the socialized system of government there that has made them into 'donors' of the current system. They wanted to become part of New Hampshire :)
One of the towns was Killington, a ski resort, but there were at least 3 other towns that held similar votes and wanted to become part of New Hampshire because the taxes in New Hampshire were a lot lower than in Vermont. But that's not really the same thing as state secession.
