I don't see it as a requirement for Christians in general to sell memberships in their "club".

That's one of the things I love about them, they are very devout but do not impose their beliefs on others, nor do they try to recruit anyone who shows no interest. They have invited my Wife and I to their church a few times and a family member is thinking of joining, but apparently they do not consider us "lost souls" in need of saving whether we want it or not.

IMO, that IS the essence of religion done right. It is something PERSONAL and you don't have a compulsion to talk others into it.
We had some local fanatics that stand on a street corner yelling about the bible....as someone with Christian values this is upsetting....I believe they make the rest of us look crazy and turn people away from religion not bring them closer. I have always wanted to stop and tell them that their time and energy would be better spent bringing people closer to God by helping the community....no one.....not even myself likes to have the bible shoved in their face. This is what your neighbors believe as well...they have invited you in and are being patient with you and mostly likely pray for you......I am not a bible master and at this time can not provide you with the exact verse or scripture on the request by Jesus to his followers to spread the word of God...but it is there....and ALL Christians participate...it is just they all have different approaches.
