Christian or not presidents use their “feelings” or instincts to make decisions.
I would say we all do, but there is a difference. Gut feelings, instincts, educated guesses, call them what you will they always come from WITHIN and shouldn't be credited to some outside force who, although being all-powerful, doesn't want to share this insight with the rest of us.

And if you know you will ignite a controversy by saying God is telling you what to do, what's wrong with SAYING your decisions are based on your instincts, or not explaining them at ALL, even if you believe they are divinely inspired?

I think Bush is pandering. Whether he thought to do it himself or someone told him it would be politically expedient to do so, it is still pandering. I have come to the conclusion that most times, the more somebody TELLS you he is a Christian the less of one he really is.
