Your model, G, is actually cyclical in nature. We democrats here in the US only get leftists in power right after hardline republicans mess up royally, and we get hardline republicans when complacency breeds moderate dems. I count Clinton as the fourth cycle since the depression. Why, if you want to reform the system, don't you do it at the top of the cycle, not the bottom? After all, if the only problem is a lack of judgement on the behalf of the people involved in terms of where their tax dollars are being spent, then isn't education the key? My grandfather worked for the CCC - it's plain to see that taxes aren't inherently bad.
