The FCC has expanded the CALEA ( Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Act) to force all broadband providers, VOIP providers, and companies that make broadband devices to create back-end to their devices to allow the FBI easy "wire tapping" access. http://www.eff.org/news/archives/2005_08.php#003876
